Quality product, December 22, 2010 By This review is from: KitchenAid KCO222OB Countertop Oven, Onyx Black (Kitchen) We decided to get a toaster oven to save heating up the large oven. We cook quite a bit, and were willing to buy what we wanted. Ended up looking at about 25 online and maybe a dozen in the stores. We were leaning toward the Hamilton beach model due to it's larger size and convection feature. We ended up with the kitchenAid due to the toaster and warmer feature. I think I would have been happy with either. The KA is quite heavy for it's size and seems well built. It is larger inside than it looks. It will easily hold a 3 quart casserole dish. It makes good toast, although it does take about 4-5 minutes. At least it does 6 slices at once. It is perfect for baking. It preheats in 5 minutes(the Hamilton Beach was reported to take up to 15 minutes). I have read about heat concerns on most toaster ovens so I put a thermometer on the outside and it gets to about 130 degrees when baking at 350. I thought that was within reason. Traced the problem back to a PCB timer, but can't buy the parts anywhere. This oven was no better, possibly worse than a cheap $25 model. When it did work it took forever to make toast.

The oven door design is flawed. It opens and stops at an upward angle so that if you pull out the rack to remove an item your fingers will be caught between the rack and the burning hot oven door. A potholder does not protect you from this burn danger, only an oven mitt will do that but the bulkiness of a mitt makes your grasp less secure. Another problem is that the numbers on the dials are not lighted and are barely visible in certain ambient light. The numbers were so invisible I thought they had rubbed off but it was the artificial light of the kitchen during the evening. The numbers are clear in the daylight. Even a flashlight does not bring clarity to the numbers so you have to guess the temmperature and settings. My oven does not bake on the bottom at the same temperature as the top so I have to cover the top of dishes at some point to allow the bottom to finish cooking. This oven is crap. I had... Read more
